Re: Acid or Alkaline?

This sounds misleading. Sure your body can control acidity/alkalinity in your body, but only to a point. The body works according to the principle of homeostasis - always trying to maintian a balance. Its like saying it doesn't matter if you heat hot stuff or cold stuff since your body's thermostat regulates heat to within a narrow range. *Yes but only to a point*. Try eating snow for an hour - you will quickly get hypothermia and die. Similarly try running in a hot desert without the cooling effect of water - you will get heat exhaustion and die.

The stomach itself is acid because thats how the stomach works to break down and digest food. The intestines themselves are alkaline because again thats how they work to break down food. But the food itself that is entering these regions can be either acid or alkaline.

If we eat something acid forming or alkaline forming it won't make much difference. But over a lifetime if we eat acid forming food or alkaline forming food it will make a huge difference to our body-chemistry. Similarly over several months, even weeks, perhaps even days.

The tricky part about this whole acid/alkaline thing is that it is not so much the acidity/alkalinity of the food itself, but rather the effect it produces on the body. For example lemons are citrous fruit and therefore clearly acidic ( citric acid ). But eating/drinking lemons alkalises your body (at least your gut anyway). There are other foods - e.g. cranberries which may have an acidifying effect on one part of the body and an alkalising effect on another part of the body. This is not too surprising because foods will be broken down in differnt ways, and different parts of the foods will be processed in different areas. One part of the food could be acid, and the other could be alkaline.

I took a quick look at the web page and it is pure sloblocks - I quote Gabe Mirkin MD:
"Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity"
What a load of tosh! What about antacids?!!?? Pure rubbish.

Look at any blood/urine/stools test and you will see that the PH of these things can all vary quiet considerably.
