Re: One more question Owen! How about WHOLE seed?
Owen, you are a gem for answering each question so patiently, even if you said it in earlier posts. Very nicely done!
One more question - I heard about the great benefits of flaxseed last year, all full of essential fatty acids omega 1 , 2 and 3.
And that it will help give a B.M. too, and the oils are good for the bowel.
But I just ate it, whole.
I never thought of grinding it until I saw you post. I have a little blender that might work, and I am going toi try it right now.
I would eat about two tablespoons of whole seed, often in a fruit blender-slushy. And I mix it in with the 'seeds-and-nuts' bowl too.
I do try to crush as many as I can [i am missing some teeth] but many go down whole [and are in the 'stool' that way the next day].
My Herbalist said it is okay to eat them whole, that our gut will extract the oils easily, and the other parts of the seed to a lesser degree. I imagine the carbohydrate-rich middle of the seed would be available only if you crush or grind them, and much good good nutrition should be there.
So I don't know if I am missing a lot or a little by not grinding them. And someone willl surely say that since the oxygen is getting to the grinded seed, it is deteriorating.
And then I sing this little song:
"Grinding Flaxseed every day , Owen eats it right away"
