Re: HealthExcel program bogus???
DONT THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER!
I will keep this brief and to the point.
The Wolcott system of Metabolic typing is sound and certainly not any more loosely based in science than Kelly's system. I dont want to bore you with the details but suffice it to say that I can be considered an expert on this subject and have a greater depth of knwoledge about this topic than those who have replied previously.
However, this is not the point of my response...
I currently have a loved one who is successfully fighting a battle with cancer and I also lost a close friend two days ago who had endured a 6 month battle with brain cancer. I have been personally affected by the disease and I have looked into alternative treatments extensively.
I believe that either metabolic typing system can work, the problem lies in the fact that systems like Wolcotts certify people over the course of a weekend to become "Metabolic Typers" and require no educational background in science, nutritional science, naturopathy, or anything else for that matter. Basically, if you can afford tuition, you can become a certified advisor. This is where the problem lies and probably where those people who have had negative experiences with Metabolic Typing (particularly HealthExcels system)have run into problems. I know Dodie Anderson who heads up the education department at Health Excel and she is a wonderful woman and has extensive knowledge about nutritional science and biochemistry. She is also not afraid to refer patients out and will gladly admit that she does not have an answer for every problem. The failures in the system stem from the fact that most of the people who become certified do not know enough to realize that they are in over there heads and they are running this as a business (some as a sole source of income) so they are afraid to refer anyone out or admit that the case may be too challenging for them.
I think that Metabolic Typing is extremely effective and particularly when you are dealing with something as serious as cancer, however, you need to make sure that the person you are working with is truly an expert and not someone who simply took a weekend course and then promotes themselves as such (you cant afford to guess!)
The advice that was already given by someone else regarding the Gersen diet is excellent. Contact them, get the DVD and watch it about 100 times. Even if you dont follow the nutritional advice there is other excellent info in the DVD. Their protocol involves existing on fruits and vegetables that are juiced in a special manner. While I disagree with the idea that everybody should be on a Raw vegetarian diet (even in the case of cancer patients) I do think that there is alot of merit to this system. I think that if you could make the Gersen diet your foundation and then research Metabolic Typing some more and identify your type you could integrate the two. For example, I have a client right now who is a Fast-Oxidzer dominant, Parasympathetic, who also has cancer. Eating a strictly Raw, vegetarian diet would probably kill her so instead we make the bulk of the diet raw vegetables with a minimal ammount of raw fruit daily and include small portions of free-range organic meat (grass fed beef and chicken) every day and supplement with organic olive oil and coconut oil and occassionally flax and fish-oil. Whole food supplements designed for her metabolic type are used sparingly (she has been scared off of any supplementation by her Oncologist and is afraid to take all but 2 of the recommended supplements) I HOPE THIS HELPS...GOOD LUCK...STAY POSITIVE...GOD BLESS!
