Re: sports drink question posting for young athlete

Gatorade basically is water, with both glucose and sucrose-fructose syrup added. These sugars pass right into the blood stream, which makes you feel great, but set you up for a number of problems that are worse than eating plain white sugar. The only thing that's. The sport drink also contains salt (tablke salt or sodium chloride which is anything but conducive to proper cell nourishment). To replenish mineral salts, it is best to use real, unrefined salt with its 84 minerals. Then there is sodium citrate, and monopotassium phosphate for electrolytes, citric acid to improve flavor, and a number of artificial ingredients for coloring and flavoring (which tend to accumulate in the connective tissues of the body). The only thing that is good in this product is the water. It is basically and acid-forming product that forces a lot of sugars into the blood in a short period of time, thereby giving the impression that balance returns to the stressed system.

Instead, it is best to drink good, filtered water with a pinch of real salt per glass before exercising and water with fresh lemon or lime juice, a pinch of real salt, and either a little raw honey, maple syryp or xylitol sugar (these act very diffently than glucose or fructose syrups).

Your son seems to be a lovely young man with a lot of wisdom in him. He will find his way, I wouln't worry about him.
His father has a need to prove himself to himself. Eventually, he will find other perhaps, less stressful ways, to show that he is strong in body and mind. I wouldn't worry about him either.

Blessings,
Andreas
