as far as parasites as an etiology for cancer, there are already some well established examples in main stream medicine, including liver/gall bladder cancer by flukes and urinary bladder cancer by schistosomes, not to mention stomach cancer and H. pylori. Im sure much remains to be discovered, for example that colombia and japan have the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world for no appearant reason. H. pylori has been implicated in some cases but not the majority, which clearly indicates some other as yet unknown mechanism; probably parasitic in nature. Cancer has also been seen to be caused by viruses, such as hep c or HPV. Cancer is a very complex issue and can be caused by many different things. One of the major issues with cancer is cell immortality, whereby the cell instead of dying in a normal cycle continues to live and replicate uncontrollably. This can occur for different reasons, damage to DNA secondary to toxen, radiation or influence by parasites, as well as chronic inflammation. Inflammation is a HUGE issue, as it increases the rate of turn over of cells. Each cell line has a definitive number of cell cycles in its life span and with each cycle becomes closer to the end of its telomere (dna free space at the end of the chromosomes) Eventually, each cycle becomes a genetic roll of the dice coming ever closer to genetic damage and therefore cellular dysfunction and perhaps cancer. This process occurs in the body constantly and we have evolved in such a way as to contain this usually, unless the immune system is damaged or dibilitated. Chronic parasite infections suppress the immune system over time, decreasing both lymphocytes and eosinophils, while neutrophils proliferate (increased immortality). In some cases, such as HTLV, parasites (strongylids) are directly linked to development of lymphoma. As far as the medical community recognition of this problem, personally I dont believe they are even close to discovering the tip of the iceberg and perhaps may not in our life times. This subject matter is utterly distasteful and not good conversation even in the feild of health science, which many of us have discovered. For surely when the full implications are made clear it will rock the medical society to its foundation. Almost sounds like the davinci conspiracy, except, unfortunately this is not fiction.
