no stones, but sludge in gallbladder

Can anybody tell me the difference between "sludge" and "stones?"

My doctor just confirmed that there are no stones in my gallbladder nor in my bile ducts (thank God!), but my gallbladder is infected and has sludge in it. He has given me Antibiotics , but he told me that if the pain recurs, my gallbladder will have to be surgically removed. I'm still on medication, and will be for the next 7 days, but I'm afraid that when the medicine runs out the pain will recur and I will have to be operated on.

Do you think a Liver Flush would help? Are there no other alternatives available to me aside from the surgical removal of my gallbladder? The doctor told me there was none. Please can anybody help?
