Re: The Bible Story Every Person Needs To Know
Hi Michael,
This particular story is one I have been questioning since I first read about it several years ago in my daily devotional, especially since my husband and I have lost all of our pregnancies, the last one full term. I have asked one of the elders at a church about it. He gave me some copy of an article by some renowned author, but I don't remember exactly what he wrote, except that God was justified.
I have prayed to God about this several times. He knows I don't feel comfortable with killing even the "suckling" and all the livestock as well. So far, I do not have all the answers I want.
One of my main questions is - How did the Israelite soldiers who did this killing live with themselves? Don't many of our soldiers today suffer from post traumatic disorder, or shell shock, from seeing all the death and destruction around them?
Sometimes God let the Israelites keep the livestock, but kill all the people, even the babies.
And then, in the book of Jonah, one of the reasons God spared the city of Nineveh was because of the souls who did not know their right hand from their left (infants and toddlers?) and "not to
mention all the animals." Jonah 4:11 Complete Jewish Bible.
I suppose some Bible scholars might understand this, but I still have trouble with it. But God does not love me any less, and I still continue to seek His face through prayer and daily (usually) Bible devotionals.
Have you ever read any of Ellen G. White's works? The Great Controvesy Ended? She has helped me understand a lot of difficult Bible information.
