Can a knat lay eggs through a coffee filter?

I am making my first batch of Kombucha and there are always knats around it. I sat and watched a knat hump the top which is a coffee filter and was wondering if it could be laying eggs that will go through the filter? My first batch is looking good already and I would hate to have some stupid knats all in it. Tweet
