Re: 2 yrs olds KNOW GOOD from BAD.
You refer to luck, and knowing that sometimes not getting what we ask for is a good thing.
What I thought your title meant is more like asking "if we know good from bad".
I say we do, allways did, from about age TWO a person knows right from wrong, and it is developed to include complex issues from that time on.
We do NOT need to teach our children anything more than respect for others. An almost inborn morality is allready there, but then sometimes we beat or humiliate or critisize it RIGHT OUTTA THEM
The best parents are those who stand back, feed the hungry mouths and keep them clean, but there is no need to offer moral guidance.
Thats what I did, I just spent time, lots of it, with them, and made them feel secure, and my sons are absolutely moral beings.
They would not declare war on Iraq, they were not bullies in school, and they are honest adults now, BECAUSE they did NOT NOT NOT get a strict upbringing.
One more personal thought here - radical as it may be-
"Religion, when used in childrearing, when children are exposed to religion, is a primary cause of im-morality in North America today.
Religion fills the children with fears and insecurites and violent thoughts. Religion has been used to recruit and create evil for centuries."
I remember the old prayer that every child of white middle class origins said every night , back in the 1960s :
"if i should die before i wake, I pray to god my soul to take". Crimy! If that don't scare the snot outta kids , nothing will.
And FEARS are the essential element in any evil act or person.
{Oh ya, stir the pot Karlin.
This won't help calm the waters...
but maybe it has to be said...}
