The Worldwide Church of God

The Worldwide Church of God is an example of a cult that for the most part has returned to orthodox evangelical Christianity. http://www.wcg.org/ (Praise God!)

You can read how this church was transformed by Christ here:

http://www.wcg.org/lit/AboutUs/history.htm (It's well worth the time to read this)

It's a fascinating story and one that EVERY evangelical Christian should be aware of. Here was an entire church of people that rejected Christian doctrines such as the Trinity, yet by the GRACE OF GOD the church leadership recognized Truth in the Bible and they changed their doctrines. This can only happen by the grace of God AND the church leadership had to open to studying (and accepting) the great doctrines of the Bible. I do believe their statement of Faith still can be improved, but they have come a long, long way. For anyone who may be wrestling with properly keeping the Sabbath, here is a church that once forced it's members keep a legalistic Sabbath, but now they have found true rest in Christ alone. The WCG church scholars have compiled lots of info on the Sabbath and it is especially interesting considering their background as a legalistic Sabbath-keeping church:

You can read more about the story of the WCG from Apologetics Index:

http://www.apologeticsindex.org/w01.html At the bottom of this link, you will find actual links to some of the SPLINTER GROUPS of the WCG. Like the old WCG, these new 'groups' reject the Trinity, embrace various forms of legalism, place an over-emphasis on the Saturday Sabbath, many cling to Armstrong's abberant prophetic interpretations, etc. Many of these groups don't put their statement of faith on their websites. Those that do are quickly exposed as false teachers by the Truth of God's Word. Others are more subtle and less willing to share their doctrines right away.

Sadly, many people from the old Worldwide Church of God were so indoctrinated in their false doctrines that they refused to follow their church leadership once they reformed, and instead formed MANY splinter groups. There are so many it's impossible to keep up with them. You will find a list of them here:

http://www.wcg.org/lit/AboutUs/splits.htm

Remember to keep these people in your prayers. Please pray for the Worldwide Church of God, that God will continue to bless them and continue to guide them into the Truth and keep them there. And of course, pray for many of the deceieved souls in these splinter groups who continue reject the Truth and believe false teachings.
