It talks about FALSE CONVERTS!
Hi there.
Those verses talk about False converts. People who never trully repented. Why don't people trully repent? Most times they only hear about loving kind side of God, but they don't hear about Wrath of God, hell, eternal damnation, etc. They don't understand the need to repent. It is like someone offering you a cure, when you don't know that you have a disease.
Many today's churches (seeker-sensitive) do a terrible disservice to seeking people. They water down the gospel, offer entertainment, tailor sermons to specific 'needs', when more than half of their congregation is headed streight to hell. Not many people realize that they are headed toward 1000 cliff blindfolded, so to speak. God is 100% just and Holy, so if you don't keep his commandments (even one), you have to pay a penalty. (We all are sinners by birth, no one is good). "Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom." In the old days, Jews used to attone for their sins (temporarily) by sacrificing animal blood, etc. Well, good news are - God became person 2000 years ago and became that sacrifice for us (for all sins, forever). In order to repent, you must realize that you sinned against God, and you are going to judged after your death. It is good to have a healthy doze of fear and trembling before God. Most people only hear 'God is love, he'll make your life good, etc. They try 'Jesus thing' for a while or for lifetime, but they don't really have foundation. People call some 'backsliders' when in reality those people weren't even saved to start with. Bible says that Law (of Moses) makes us aware of our sin. But even if you never read a bible, never heard of Jesus, you still have law of God written on your heart. Your conscience knows right from wrong, so you are without excuse.
