Re: Candy I have a diferent question for you

Patrycha,
I'm so sorry to hear about your condition. To know that it might have been prevented, or at least lessened must be horrible. My insurance pays for most of everything for me, but before I was diagnosed, my doc did several blood tests, and a thyroid scan. I don't have a record how much the lab work was, but my doc charges $95 a follow up visit, and the scan was $710 at a hospital. But now, I take just one medication, it costs me $12 a month (with my insurance), I don't know how much it really costs, but I know it's not over $35. It has really changed my life. After the first 3 months, and all the tests, my doc appt's got further apart. First I went like 3 months, then 4, now I just go see him 2 times a year, every 6 months.

Before I went to the doctor, I did alot of research about thyroid conditions on another site called WebMD. It was so informative. Here in the US, doctor's tend to rely on whatever the lab says is "normal range" when they send back your test results, and every lab can have surprisingly different ranges for "normal".....so someone with a mild thyroid condition can be told they are normal when in fact, the numbers are not normal for them. It is important to find an endocrinolgist that you trust, and will work with you, and adjust your medication until you feel better.

I suggest you get insurance first, before going, if you are considering it, you don't know to what extent the tests will get for you, considering everything you have been exposed to. If not, maybe you can find a doctor that will work with you and let you make payments. You didn't say how old you were, but I'm sure you know things will only get worse. Your thyroid is one of the glands that regulates everything in your body. You really should go get it checked out soon, but be informed before you go. There is a mound of information out on the web.

Good luck and keep me posted. I hope I could help.
Candy
