It may be that both Dr. Young and others are correct. It depends entirely on the molasses.

Molasses is a Sugar syrup that is pressed from Sugar cane. The first pressing is often cleaned, purified, and dried to make table sugar. This first pressing has a very high Sugar content and is acidic.

The recommended alkaline source is blackstrap molasses. This comes from the third pressing of the cane and has a much highed mineral content and lower sugar content. This makes it alkaline.
