Great post Shelley.
I would make this into one of your FAQ's and add to it as time goes on. It is an important (and confusing) issue.

I especially liked it when you said:
"So you want a stomach with plenty of acids or the entire process is compromised"

Yes! Thats what I concluded in my candida big-picture post. Low stomach acid = low saliva, and low release of bile/enzymes.

So if one link in the digestive chain isn't working the whole chain is severely compromised.

In extremis Candida can come down to just one thing - low HCL production.

Stress (from chronic infection such as Glandular fever) would be enough to severely comromise digestive function and set the ball rolling (as in my case).
