Generally speaking, don't listen to diabetics. Not unless they cured their diabetes or something. They do weird stuff that doesn't apply to regular people, and sometimes is just plain bad. Like using lots of artificial sweeteners which are soooo toxic. And avoiding healthy foods that have a lot of natural carbs or sugars (like cherries).
Generally speaking, if you are not diabetic, then any fruit or vegetable is good for you, go ahead and eat it.
bkrisp gave you some great advice.
Another consideration for fish (wild-caught only is right! and ocean fish is much better than "fresh" water fish) is to eat wild-caught sardines. The smaller the fish, the better. Anchovies, that kind of thing. Perhaps you can find this in the store. They are canned and will last a while. I eat some smoked, water-packed wild-caught sardines from Norway. YUMMMM they are amazing!
