Natural Bug Repellant + Treatment for bites?

Hi all,

I live in an apartment with no a/c, so the windows are always open, but they don't have any screens! I wake up every morning with a new batch of bites, and the bites usually swell A LOT and are *very* red and itchy (more so than is normal). I guess I have a stronger allergic reaction than most people, what can I do to correct this?

Also, what can I use around the house to keep the bugs *outside*?
