Yes! How long ago did you get your Amalgams out? I had mine done two and a half weeks ago and they still hurt! I thought that was bad till I talked to a girl who had hers done two MONTHS ago and she still had a hard time chewing or eating hot foods. Mine were done by the dentist recommended by Hulda Clark and Hal Huggins, so I KNOW it's not due to bad installation!

From what I've read and learned from other people, pain after removal is normal. (I wonder why nobody tells you that beforehand?) Because Amalgam placement usually requires a good deal of space to 'set' properly, a lot of the tooth is drilled out. So when they take it out and replace it (especially in a molar) you're talking about a large filling.

I had four molars with such large Amalgams that my original dentist wanted to just go ahead and crown them. The replacement fillings naturally are large as well. Sometimes when that happens the nerve sits really close to the new filling and can be quite sensitive.

In fact, a few days ago my teeth started hurting so bad I had to take painkillers. I got really scared until I spoke with the Dr's office and found it was a sensitive nerve and I should just plan on "babying" the tooth for a while. (Rats, and I was planning to have Corn Nuts for dinner!)

Getting it replaced with Amalgam is just stupid, and would make me seriously question how much mercury your dentist has been inhaling. I don't know how you could find out whether there were "air pockets", that would worry me.

Sorry to be so wordy. My short answer is yep, pain is normal. Bummer! On the other hand my Amalgams used to hurt too, especially when eating cold or hot foods. Tweet
