Eileen: Absolutely, candida often not only harms the intestional lining, but changes the gut pH, reduces antibody secretions, and even changes the overall chemistry of the gut, opening the door to other pathogens as well. It's very common to see candida in tandem with other parasites or bacterial imbalances.
