Now there is another good point! - "you can also practice affirmations since afterall our brain can be programmed consciously"

What we think of is what we become.
If I spend all day thinking of how anxious I am, I will remain anxious.
I will do better if I instead focus on what part of me is relaxed, or do things that will get my mind engaged on something other than anxiety or anxious situations.

An upcoming trip, for eg., will occupy my mind all day and it gets all messed up. i have learned to let the thought go and think about other things, or nothing.

Thinking of nothing is the hardest task for any human. I have practised meditation lots and that is actually the whole point for some meditation practises.
