If you change your own oil...

Before removing the old oil filter, puncture the bottom of it with a nail or awl to drain it of oil. Makes removing the filter easier and less messy.

Always fill the new oil filter with fresh oil before installing it. This lubes the engine quicker when you start it up. Tweet
