Re: Water fast to recover from a possible hernia as a result of a recent nephrectomy
Thank you for your reply. I agree that a fast makes sense post-op! A week and a half after the procedure I weighed in at 130lbs. Today I visited the doc who wanted to see for himself whether I may or may not have a hernia. He was certain that it was not a hernia (or maybe the fast helped?!), but that it was instead one of the "floating ribs" at the bottom of the ribcage which I had been feeling in addition to strained muscles from being too active and lifting too much in this post-op recovery period. I might not have noticed these "floating ribs" before, but today I weighed in at 123lbs, which is a significant weight loss in such a short time. IMO my body was not wanting as much food so it could heal itself rather than digest! He encouraged me to eat, drink and REST more. I can't remember the last time I weighed this little - and that scared me - so I broke the fast today making it a 3-day water fast, with about 6-8 of those hours on day two being a dry fast.
I had nausea on days 2-3 and a severe headache on day three. My tongue was coated in toxins...pretty sure that was the cause of both of these symptoms. Because of the nausea (no vomiting) and headaches, I'd like to do maybe a 2 or 3 day fast again during the recovery period (which is up to 6 weeks), but I would greatly appreciate advice to make sure I'm not going back into a fast too soon...my BMI was already low pre-op at 135lbs. Thanks
