"This drop is still under development and will soon start Phase II, so it will take another few years before it is on the market".
Bullshit. It already successfully passed Phase II.
QUOTE: https://www.prnewswire.com/.../encore-vision-announces-successful... "2016/05/05 - Encore Vision Announces Successful Phase I-II Study of Topical EV06 for the Treatment of Presbyopia. - First clinical study of medical treatment aimed at the root cause of presbyopia. - Superior efficacy in visual outcomes observed with EV06 at 15 days continuing through 90 days. - EV06 was safe and well-tolerated with no treatment-related study discontinuations. FORT WORTH, Texas, May 5, 2016" Or am I missing something here?
Who are they kidding? (Part 2):
"It will not have an indication to treat cataracts". NO? Yes it will, according to Richard Lindstrom, MD. QUOTE: www.eurotimes.org/presbyopia-eyedrops-lindstrom/ Eventually, EV06 or a similar preparation might also help slow or even reverse nuclear cataract formation, which is thought to result from the same chemical process that causes presbyopia, added Dr Lindstrom, who is founder of Minnesota Eye Consultants, Bloomington, Minnesota, USA, and a board member and equity owner of Encore Vision. QUOTE: "EV06 targets disulfide bonds that form among proteins in the crystalline lens in response to oxidative challenge and UV light that both stiffen and cloud the lens".
And I have posted extracts from a paper recently in this Cataract Forum on Curezone describing exactly how mixed disulfide bonds trapping colored AGEs are responsible for nuclear cataract, and how reducing (breaking) those bonds can at least partially restore normal lens protein configuration. I am sure that Novartis too is thoroughly familiar with the shared pathology of presbyopia and human senile (nuclear) cataract.
Aaww, Novartis, don't be so negative about the eye drops you bought when you went shopping. You made a wonderful purchase...you gobbled up both the eye drops and even the company that developed them for $465 million. Well, guess what - there are currently 94 million people on the same planet as you who are living with cataracts, many of them with nuclear cataract - and they might not be too happy when they hear you might be planning to keep them in perpetual darkness or living a visual nightmare...just so you can go on selling your IOLs and products for cataract surgery. Oh, and just so we don't forget - most cataract patients cannot afford multifocal IOLs. Cataract surgery with monofocal IOLs means presbyopia for life which will make the patient dependent on at least one pair of eyeglasses - and which cannot be corrected either with multifocal eyeglasses, or with the eye drops you bought. CureZone readers, feel free to phone or mail Novartis to tell them just how much you like their negative attitude about those eye drops, and how much you love being forced to have cataract surgery and lifelong, irreversible presbyopia.
