Re: Dreams about death what does this mean?

First Dream:

Dreaming of the death of someone who we know in real life can have at least three possible meanings:
1. It may very well be that she will be dying soon.
2. It could be that your current relationship with her is dying. It might then be replaced by a new relationship – perhaps more of an adult to adult rather than a child to an adult.
3. Another possibility, which I consider to be less likely for this dream, is that she represents an archetype from the collective unconscious (per Carl Jung).

Second Dream:

Whenever a dream is to be taken symbolically, the sequence of events is often important. This is what we have here.

In this dream, the dreamer represents her (?) ego. For a Jungian, the ego is the center of consciousness and has little to do with egotism.

I’m not too sure about the significance of the mattress but the wall implies that the dreamer and the other agent are somehow at odds with other dream people.

The other people in this dream are almost certainly symbols of archetypes from the collective unconscious. If the dreamer is female and the other agent is male, he is probably her animus. Ths animus is always male and is only found in the psyche (mind) of women. If the other agent is also female, she may be a symbol of the dreamer’s shadow.

A little aside –
1. In Jungian psychology, the center of the psyche is an archetype called the self. The psyche consists of the consciousness and the unconscious. The unconscious consists of the personal and the collective unconscious.
2. An archetype is produced by the collective unconscious. An archetype can appear in our as almost anything. It could be a person, an animal, a plant, an object or a shape. An archetype could also be an action – such as crossing a bridge.
3. We can never have a complete understanding of an archetype. Therefore, we can never have a complete understanding of any dream that contains are archetype.

The dream sequence then goes like this:
1. This other agent then begins to shoot at the dreamer.
2. The dreamer is next in a church.
3. While at the church, the dreamer gets a job of taking dead body parts, which are in plastic bags, to a trash.
4. A boy begins to follow the dreamer.
5. The dreamer, with a few friends, is taking the bags.
6. When this is done, the dreamer on a bridge.
7. While apparently still on the bridge, the dreamer bad-mouths the boy and says, “that boy was so dumb.”
8. The two of you begin fighting,
9. You want to “talk” to him but he is still violent.
10. The dreamer then wakes up.

Okey-dokey now – so what is going on here?
• The other agent who is shooting at the dreamer is something that a dream friend would do. This is because the other agent is “only” trying to kill the dreamer’s ego. This ego is only a part of the dreamer. The ego’s death is commonly seen as a person become more spiritual and psychologically developed. For example, this is a classic sign of shamanism.
• This death of the ego is a virtual guarantee of the increased development of the other dream people. Thus, their deaths are needed before they can be reborn anew.
• This positive interpretation is confirmed by the dreamer’s next being in a church, which probably symbolizes the psyche of the dreamer.
• The walk over the bridge is a common symbol of taking a step towards a new beginning or, at least, something new – perhaps a new attitude, a new way of thinking or a new world view.
• Saying that the boy was dumb may be a regression before the dreamer makes that final crossing.
• The dreamer and the boy start to fight but the dreamer wants to talk to him. The dreamer’s desire to talk to the boy is a very good sign. This indicates a desire to work with these dream people. When we listen to them by trying to understand the meaning of our dreams, we take a big step in both the growth of them and ourselves.

Hope this helps,
