Re: Loquat...
Funny you should say that vekky. I used to think the modern versions were, ipso facto, 'better' than the AV (aka KJB or KJV). And that's after being aware of the traditional arguments put forward by Textus Receptus purists such as The Trinitarian Bible Society in favour of the AV. But after having read 'Three Modern Versions' by Alan J Macgregor, I'm not so sure now.
Macgregor's arguments against the NIV, ESV and even your NKJV are pretty compelling, and superficially at least appear difficult to refute. I feel I would have to devote a huge amount of time 'fact checking' him in order evaluate his criticisms of these versions - time I just don't have at the moment, and likely never will.
It's a tricky predicament we face when it comes to choice of versions/Bible translations, no doubt about it. Since most of us are not experts in textual criticism, the decision is correspondingly that much more difficult. Despite that, I'm still not sure if I'm ready to ditch all the modern versions in favour of the AV.
The NRSV would probably come in for similar criticism from Macgregor, but since he doesn't mention it, I think I might adopt it as my main version out of sheer mischief, and the likely mistaken belief that it represents a good compromise.
