The ball appears to be a knot of worms, probably ascaris, possibly attached to a piece of the flat rubbery stuff. The flat rubbery stuff is commonly identified as a fluke. The two types of parasites seem to be commonly found together.

Read the previous thread with the title "What species of fluke is this". It has some great info and other pics.
