Re: New user, my thoughts/experience with the condition so far.
I have been heavily stressed for certain periods over the past 2 years due to personal issues and sometimes school. It's a possibility that that's what started my peeling lips, which began roughly 2 years ago.
The bottom edge of my lower lip and upper edge of upper lip aren't affected and are just like normal lip skin (kind of odd). But usually the entire rest of my lips are affected. It started out with large dry scabs peeling from the lower lip and just the middle triangle of upper lip peeling, but has progressively gotten worse to where all the skin excluding the outer edges is peeling.
No, my lips don't get dryer when I brush my teeth. The contact with water does make dry scabs white and mushy-appearing. I'm now using a mixture of baking soda, coconut oil, and lemongrass to brush my teeth, in fear that toothpaste may cause much inflammation of my lips.
And that's the biggest problem I have with my lips. They've been swollen so much and are surely permanently larger than they were before this all started. It's quite embarrassing to be in public and to try to socialize. But recently I've been using a balm my mom made consisting of beeswax, coconut oil, and fried egg yolk oil which I think has reduced the inflammation quite a bit (I've already tried everything you can name, Vaseline, carmex, any chap stick, aquaphor, lanolin, topical steroids, etc, all which have not helped much at all). The mixture is very dark brown so it stains the dry parts of my lips and can't really be washed off, so it's pretty difficult to be around people (I'm in high school and have definitely had people looking at my lips), but in the end it's worth it, at least for me. Of course there are still times when my lips return to their inflamed state (most likely when I eat unhealthy or certain foods, maybe bread, some grain, chocolate, or high
Sugar foods). Also, I've noticed my lips get more red and slightly inflamed when it's really hot. Do you experience any inflammation?
