Re: Considering teeth implants - need help!!
Strangely enough I can't find any long term studies on implants and the human immune system. Which actually is the most important part of what an implant does
Implants are a foreign substance that you permanently place into your body. Your immune system generally goes around your body identifying stuff that isn't you and then the immune system will attack what isn't you. On a basic level this is what the human immune system does.
Most dds speak of implants like your jaw is a mechanical hinge and not part of your body. I find that strange. You dds will suggest that many people have implants and are walking around feeling good but clearly a weak immune system wouldn't kill you today-much like I see many people smoking.
I did find one small study that showed a drop of about 50% of most of your immune system. This would not kill you short term but long term could be a very serious issue. A strong immune system is what keep you healthy-think cancer-lyme ect.
Studies of this kind would study the various materials that are placed forever into a persons body. One would think some would be better than others.
I also know many docs who consider implants as unhealthy as smoking.
