Various Types of Heat Resistant Materials

Heat resistant Materials can tolerate temperatures up to 1650° C. They are manufactured with varying width, length, thickness, to achieve high flexibility and material application.

Heat resistant materials have the ability to guard equipment from being damaged due to high temperature. These are commonly found materials on the inside of ovens, cars, furnaces and industrial buildings, etc. The ceramics are Heat resistant materials and are proficient of operating in high temperatures. The thermal conductivity have high thermal conductivity resistance. They reduce the chances of dangerous off-gassing hazards.

Here we take a look at some important types of heat resistant materials used in homes and industries.

1. Heat Resistant Sealants
Sealants can effectively resist temperatures between 157°C to 816°C. Sealants are materials that secure the spaces or gaps between concrete sections of a machine. They are used where very precise and strong sealing is required. That’s why these should be good high temperature and pressure resistant materials. They are used due to their low shrinkage and expansion coefficient.

They are available in two forms, liquid foam and cement. Liquid foam sealants are used to seal machined connections and threading. While cement sealants are primarily used to cover rough surfaces. Seals made of cement based sealants resist unwanted chemicals such as mild alkalis, ammonia, brine, hydrocarbons, and acids. They appreciably reduce harm due to shock and vibrations.

Due to their remarkable properties, they are used in industries like automotive, power generation, heavy equipment, oil, steel, and more.

2. Heat Resistant Tapes
Heat resistant tapes are utilized where normal tapes do not work due to high pressure and temperature. These can bear a tremendous amount of stress & tension even if they are working under several wash and dry cycles. They offer resistance to perspiration, salt, water and chlorine.

They are worn in the heat press processes and high temperature sublimation. Various heat resistant, high bulk glass fiber tapes are available for specialty projects like heavy coating of iron oxide and red silicon rubber. Ceramic tapes usually have a combination of ionic and covalent bonds, making them good Heat Resistant Material.

3. Fire Blanket
Fire blankets are well known heat resistant application. Fire Blankets used for laboratory and industrial usage. Wool with flame retardant fluid is used as a base material. They can easily extinguish fires and can decrease the chances of fire related accident. They are made up of fire resistant material sheets that are designed to be draped over the fire.

These are available in a number of sizes. Small size blankets are made by Machining Quartz and used in kitchen or home applications. They can also be made up using fiberglass & Kevlar.

I'm sharing my ideas and views about Heat Resistant materials. I've written many articles and blogs which provide helpful information on topics such as ceramics, advanced ceramics, ceramic structure and benefits of ceramics etc.
