Re: DEC diethylcarbamazine
The first three rounds of DEC made me sick too. But this last round it has not. I have been on it for 7 weeks now. No nausea, no explosive diarrhoea (and here's a picture, boys and girls). Joke.
This past 11 days I have taken
.....Albendazole 10mls twice a day
....DEC 250mg twice a day for weight 75kgs.
.....Moxidectin double dose for weight once a day with a glass of Grapefruit juice.
Within three days of taking Albendazole again some "scars" of old nests on my feet started to get a spongey feeling to them.
By Day Five I noticed the big one on my foot started to develop a black/purple mark under the skin. This has been the sign of rotting mites in the past after taking Albendazole. I pricked the top of the "scar" and it was full of clear fluid and the skin was not attached to the underlying tissues. So, I scraped the whole layer of skin off and there was a black substance sitting on the underlying tissue that i could scrape off with the blade...Dead rotten mites.
The whole are under what I had thought was a scar was actually skin covering a nest. When I scraped away the skin there was an obvious entry area dug and a deeper hole dug where the black mass was.
I am hesitant to continue taking Albendazole now. I have taken heaps of it in the past. But as my dog was on it at the same time and has developed leukaemia I am quite terrified of it. His condition may not be related and his dosing may have been too high.
I believe strongly that Albendazole kills the nymphs and that approximately 75% of our mite population on us at any one time are nymphs. Thats why I think we get such a huge Herx reaction from Albendazole.
I think there are relatively few adults on us.
I also think we have a huge population percentage wise of eggs and that is why we get sick with the DEC.
This theory is backed up a bit because I have taken heaps of IVer and Moxi and never once had a Herx reaction from it.
MY question to any long term sufferers......What if we reach the stage where we have no crawlers and do a big kill with several meds like I have just done........and then we go onto DEC daily for a year or two? Like a dog with heart worm treatment.
Any thoughts?
