Shoot for a cheap insulin pump and stick to short-acting insulin. The pump allows you to change how much insulin you recieve the moment you start feeling a low blood sugar coming on.

I've been able to water-fast for three days on my pump!

I use a function called 'Temp Basal Rate', for example, to tell the pump to give me 20% less insulin for the next hour and a half. Temporary basal rates can be extended to up to 24 hours, which is very useful if you get sick or want to fast.



I was on shots with NPH before I got my pump, and the lows were a constant problem (not that I didn't mind the excuse to go to the school nurse and have a snack to begin!).



The low-carb diet works very well and improves how you feel, I can attest to that :-)



Fruit is of an extra help, it's quite low carb, and the body is capable of metabolizing fructose (from fruits!) into vitamin C.



If you start parasite cleansing, digestive enzymes, or ozonated/herbal bowel cleanses, expect blood sugar spikes when candida-colonies (biofilms) are killed. Biofilm-forming gut bacteria are what I've found at the core of my own type 1 D (and the antibiotics that attacked them).
I found that magnesium stops the bloodsugar spikes in these cases.
