Re: Rare condition seen on TV
Many people have been discussing overgrowth of yeast as possible cause of EC. This man had 40% yeast in his gut. How is this reaching for things? You kind of sound ignorant thinking you know it all when your advice is stuff others here have already been doing. Nothing new about using steroids and moisturizers.
Here's some more information about this condition:
"It happens due to a genetic predisposition and inadequate production of hydrochloric acid in your stomach. This allows yeast overgrowth. The yeast will then ferment the carbohydrates in your liver to create alcohol. Number one cause of liver transplants in the U.S. For most people, the condition is silent and goes unnoticed until blood work shows liver enzyme elevations consistent with alcoholism. The doctor will either tell you you are lying or diagnose you with Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis, NASH. On blood work, if your AST and/or ALT are above 25, you have early NASH."
I wonder if hydrochloric acid supplements would help combat yeast. A DNA stool test is recommended to check yeast levels.
Antifungals and probiotics are also recommended.
I guess I had what you call early NASH since my AST was above 25, which is expected with celiac disease.
