Emmenagogue, menstrual period inducer

I just tried to make the Emmenagogue, menstrual period inducer recipe found on page 546 of Dr. Clark's book, The Cure For All Diseases , and am a bit confused. The recipe calls for 4.5 cups of water boiled, with 1 oz of each of the following herbs: rue, sassafrass bark, blue cohosh and marjoram, simmered for 20 mins. It seemed strage to me when I bought the proportions of herbs, because it looked like like alot. It seems like there was as much herbs as water in the pot, and when I strained out the water in the end, there was only about 3 cups of liquid that came out and it is dark brown and seems so strong I can't imagine trying to drink it. The book says to drink one cup in the morning and sip the rest throughout the day. I just want to make sure I did it right. Has anyone tried or know about this recipe?
