Drop in body temp after starting iodine
I just started
Iodine supplementation this week for my slow metabolism, pcos, and symptoms of a slow thyroid( no diagnosis of hypothyroidism- but runs in family). Cold hands and feet, constipation, fatigue after being awake only for a few hours, been in bed for about 2 weeks due to the tiredness. Have history of bipolar disorder, but doesn't feel like depression, just so tired all the time lately. My skin has been really dry, and I sit in my bed with an electric blanket on for most of the day. Feet and hands still cold despite the blanket.
I am on 6.25mg of
Iodine for 5 days now. May increase to 12.5 mg in a few days. only detox so far is mild headaches, though not constant. I am taking the selenium, b hits, magnesium, plenty of vitamin a, and 2-3g of c separate from
Iodine . I have noticed my body temp go down since I started. Temp was 97.3 most of the time during the day( not measured before waking up totally). Now it is 96.7 F. Does this happen when you first start the iodine? I am even colder than usual ! I am sitting with the electric blanket, and a space heater blowing on me at the moment. It is not helping. Wondering if I am forgetting something as far as supplements go. I take a multi that covers the bases well in addition to supplements mentioned above.
The doctors always tell me my thyroid is fine in the past. I no longer take lithium, or any other meds for the bipolar as it just made me worse. Been off meds for almost 5 years. Sometimes I wonder if they just made a mistake in diagnosis, because I do so much better without medicine. I do remember my tsh being around 5.4 when I was on lithium, but the doctor wouldn't do anything until it would reach a 10 for all his patients. Tsh went back to around 2.5-3.0 after I stopped the meds and has hovered there for a while. I haven't gotten tsh measured recently due to lack of money and I figure the doctor would just say it is normal like always. Seems like a waste of money to go to the doctor these days. I will probably get some blood tests done soon if I don't see any improvement. I can just go to a lab and get tsh free t3 and t4 to see if normal. If out of range then talk to a my husbands dr about it. I hate paying for a dr visit when I don't have to.
Is the drop in temp fairly common when you start iodine supplementation? That is my main question. Any other suggestions are welcome as well.
