Thank for this informative article. Being an HIV+ person, I certainly appreciate it, and needles to say, have been eating alot more bananas lately! To elaborate more on the subject, I have read that lectin proteins in general, which are found in a myriad of foods, especially abundant in grains, legumes and potatoes, effectively inhibit the propagation of the HIV virus. They do so by binding to the glycoprotien envelope or coat of the virus and in essence block it's receptors from connecting to and infecting T-Lymphocyte cells. Hoorah for mother nature! Further, raw garlic when eaten daily, has proven to be effective against microbes that cause the onset of the resulting disease AIDS. Some believe that in the long term that the antimicrobial "allicin" in garlic actually kills HIV or viruses in general. However, although effective in vitro, the verdict is still out to whether it is as effective in the human body. Nevetheless, anything that holds promise in the battle against HIV should certainly not be ruled out.
