Re: Acute hemolysis after iodine ingestion

For the ones that doesnt know the difference;

Polyvinyl is a common ingredient in Iodine tinctures, like poviodine, betadine. Not made for ingestion.

The polyvinyl (plastic compound) alchohol itself has a hemolysis rate of 1, 19% (from studies in vivo) Not much, but;
It should not be combined with certain medications. Thats why I would like to know more about this patient`s health and medication story before I`d jumped into conclusion of what caused what.

Lugols, a water/potassium based solution of Iodine was actually used to prevent hemolysis in some conditions, like in Newcastle disease (virus).
