Washington took his first presidential Oath of Office on a Bible that was borrowed from a Masonic Lodge in New York which was administered by Chancellor Robert R. Livingston, Grand Master of Masons. In fact, on a monument commemorating George Washington's presidency it reads: "George Washington; Freemason and First President."
This is a print (below) of George Washington laying the "cornerstone" of the United States Capitol, September 18, 1793, proudly displaying his Masonic apron in the ceremony.
