There is an ion exchange between metals and certain liquids based on solubility. Though in the case of silver, it's likely that it's the oxides that are leeching into the solution(milk, water etc). Which would likely result in total stabilization over the long term. Such as when placing a silver coin in water etc.
As for the analysis, there are many ways to test for the presence of silver compounds in solution while some can only be detected through very specific methods such as atomic absorption spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry etc.
