The biggest criminal in the protein misconception is the Atkins diet. I have not read the book but have read reviews that state it does promote some unrefined carbs but yet seemingly intelligent people that I work with condemn any carb’s. They will see me with my good friend brown rice and tell me they couldn’t have that in their diet it’s a carb (the enemy). Again my understanding is Adkins put down refined processed foods like sugar, white flour, etc and promoted vegi’s, fruits and unrefined carbs but it does seem that his book created more misconceptions than not.
The vitamin/supplement industry certainly has its drawbacks too. At times they seem just as intrusive as the prescription drug industry pushing a cure for every known problem with their products. Money, money, money it’s just so great to live in a consumer society.
