James 1: 12-16 ERV
12 Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful! After they have proved their faith, God will give them the reward[b] of eternal life. God promised this to all people who love him. 13 Whenever you feel tempted to do something bad, you should not say, “God is tempting me.” Evil cannot tempt God, and God himself does not tempt anyone. 14 You are tempted by the evil things you want. Your own desire leads you away and traps you. 15 Your desire grows inside you until it results in sin. Then the sin grows bigger and bigger and finally ends in death.
16 My dear brothers and sisters, don’t be fooled about this.
Hunter, I must be a very dull girl with all my work and almost no play. ;) I wouldn't exchange my joy in the Lord for any amount of play this world has to offer. The Bible is saying here that desires that are not of God grow inside us resulting in sin and eventually death. Those games discussed in this thread lead to thoughts which lead to sin which leads us away from God. This man needs to get as close to God as possible. That is the only place where he will find true satisfaction and joy. The games are nothing but a counterfeit that will distract him from what he really needs and wants. Being a paraplegic may be a blessing in disguise if he can see this truth and use it for his advantage. This handicap may give him more time to seek the things of the Lord. Now that could really pay off for him making it worth it all. God has big plans for his life, but he will never see those plans manifested if he does not seek God with his all. God is a jealous God. He doesn't like sharing us with ungodly things.
Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. You are sinners, so clean sin out of your lives.[a] You are trying to follow God and the world at the same time. Make your thinking pure. 9 Be sad, be sorry, and cry! Change your laughter into crying. Change your joy into sadness. 10 Be humble before the Lord, and he will make you great.
