Your mistake was to take more Vitamin C than bowel tolerance: that's the max your body is ready to absorb at any one time and it varies constantly to whatever your body's current demand. You can safely take far, far, far more, but it has to be from a shot to a muscle or into a vein to be tolerated.
What you should have done was stopped at bowel tolerance and maintained, going up or down as your tolerance changes according to demand/use. During the next few weeks you would get healthier in various ways. As your health improves, your bowel tolerance drops (need less Vitamin C).
My health issues are different (connective tissue mainly), but I've seen a dramatic improvement on various health problems. I certainly don't fear colds or flues now and my central issues have all but gone away in 3-4 weeks of 8-15+ grams a day. I plan to max my Vitamin C on a regular basis. FYI, I find a bit of unexplained flatulence to be a first indicator that I've reached my bowel tolerance. I also sometimes get a tart flavor in my mouth which also seems a precursor to bowel tolerance.
