Re: Blasto detected in stool test

>So what is the proper test? I mean, for 3 years, nothing, now something definate. Metametrix is the most accurate test. Should I visit the infectious disease doctor? This doctor, although conventional, was very impressed with the depth of the Metametrix test before when we were looking at yeast levels. I was surprised that he didn't dismiss the test.

Sigmoidoscopy with mucosa scraping is the best test I know when it comes to protozoa. Unfortunately I don't know any other dr doing this test other then Kevin Cahill in NY, USA.

I recently spoke with Cahill and there seems to be other drs doing this test but there are not many. The following are some reasons why there are not many drs doing this test.

* Medicine college tuition is very expensive. With so much dept graduates prefer colonoscopy since it pays a lot more
* People have a normalcy & optimism bias that we never get parasites in USA.
* Tropical disease is a misleading name and its seen as a problem that only happens in the Tropics.
* There is no lobby for tropical disease.

Tropical disease and sigmoidoscopy with mucosa scraping seems to be a dying art in USA. I think the lack of proper available tests is a public health issue. Imagine all the people that gets diagnosed with IBS and actually have Giardia or Entamoeba histolytica

I forgot where you live...

Besides Sigmoidoscopy with mucosa scraping from Cahill two other Brazilian labs have worked for me. One lab does a proctoscopy with possibly biopsy but I don't think mucosa scraping (I could be wrong and they could have changed better call and ask). The name of this lab is Clinica Aloysio de Carvalho and its located in Rio de Janeiro City, Brazil. They were able to find Giardia but not EH but its been years and their test could have improved.

Labion is the other lab and its located in Niteroi city Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. With this lab you have to collect 5 days of stool sample and on the 5 day you have to deliver all the samples within two hours of the last taken sample. They were able to find EH on the first test and and then Giardia on a second test. The price for the test is VERY cheap compared to what you pay in USA but you have to pay the trip to Brazil. Labion is the lab I would go if I didn't know about kevin Cahill. All the other labs I tried in USA have been useless to me.
