Green snot ( myeloperoxidase enzyme)
For the past 5 years i have been suffering from undiagnosed health issues.
At 18 I came down with chronic mild-flu like symptoms but my sinuses became plugged 24/7. I now suspect toxic mold in my house was the primary cause. Not knowing that at the time I naively followed my Dr's prescription protocols.
I was put on a tonne of
Antibiotics and nasal corticosteroids.
This caused me an immense candida overgrowth that I have been battling ever since as well as other health issues.
One symptom that I have developed over the years is that when I eat gluten (rarely) I get very thick green mucus buildup in my nose and stool.
I was always under the impression it could be just candida reaction or undiagnosed IBD or celiac.
However the other day I came across articles on mucus and this came up .
"The green color of mucus comes from the heme group in the iron-containing enzyme myeloperoxidase secreted by white blood cells as a cytotoxic defense during a respiratory burst."
I was put on Singulair for a while a few years ago. Green mucus I found out is linked to Churg–Strauss syndrome which is caused by Sinuglair ( Montelukast ) .
I have a few questions about myeloperoxidase .
Is it feasible to reduce it's presence in the body so I don't get these reactions?
What happens if someone tries to reduce the activity of it?
I am seeing a Neurologist soon after an MRI detected possible MS. I will bring up the subject of CSS as well with him.
Any help for my questions or holistic approaches for CSS would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help
