OMG! I never thought about protein before. Of course, I eat it all the time. No wonder Montreal Homegrown's diet worked for him. I think he stopped eating a lot of protein. But I need protein! So, I need to find out how to get protein without this amino acid. This person's peeling lips was caused by an allergy to amino acid in protein:
"Since childhood, I've dealt with peeling lips. My parents always told me I was picking them, but even when I wore band-aids on them for 3 days, the skin would come become dry and peel off until they bled.
Also, since puberty, I've dealt with acne. Plenty of blackheads and many infections on my face. Over the past 8 years, I saw doctors to no avail.
Finally, two years ago, I discovered that when I didn't eat protein for 8 days, my Acne and my peeling lips healed. However, within 10 hours of eating protein, the Acne and chapped lips return.
Protein sources that I had to avoid included: Meats, eggs, cheeses, nuts, seeds, flax seeds, tofu, beans, lentils, chickpeas, miso.
I did discover that I could eat other types of protein without incident: Whole-wheat pasta, algae and the proteins found in potatoes, yams and so many other vegetables.
I saw 7 doctors but no one wanted to help.
I stayed on a low-protein diet for 9 months and my skin and lips remained perfect. I had blood tests conducted to make sure I was getting enough protein and the doctor said I had better protein levels than anyone in the hospital.
I believe I am allergic to a specific amino acid within protein. I can't get any doctors to help with this. Are there any amino-acid tests? Are there disorders like this?"
