I agree totally, we should ALWAYS treat the cause & underlying issues.

It is extremely rare than a person can withdraw from benzos without severe withdrawal effects (no matter how slowly they withdraw)....even after only a few weeks/months of usage. Cold turkey withdrawal can induce seizures - many times life-threatening. This class of drugs is insidious, and the well-known usage & withdrawal effects should never be minimized or thought to be part of any "underlying cause".
