I didn't see this post until after I posted my message. You mom
quit. Good for her. It's a tough thing to do but I also quit - 43
years ago. My current COPD has to do with the removal of a portion of my
lung due to lung cancer. Yup. Was a heaver smoker. Really
heavy. Quitting was one of the most difficult experiences of my life and
it didn't work the first two or three times. But I'm persistent.

Here's a book that I have and it is the best one that I've seen on this
subject.
It may be available at your local library. (I have no connection with
the author.) Breathing out is critical. Learning to breathe out
longer than breathing in is the key regarding breath control. (Your other
response is great too.) It helps in both COPD and hypertension as well.
