Sardines are on my craving list too, and it is pretty intense when it comes. What I believe to be true is that as long as the body has the basic needs, the craving will be for relatively "healthy" food.
I found out that if fighting my cravings that would make the food taste and feel less good than it "should".
One other possibility is that our subconscious mind / soul knows better than the day-conciousness what the body needs, and make sure we get the drift by cravings.

I rarely crave like sweets, when it happens I only need a little to feel fulfilled.

My eldest son used to only want clothes in neutral colors like grey, blue and black. Recently he said ; I need some other colors mum, and off we went an bought sweaters in orange, purple and turquoise. I was kind of shocked, but happy as he brightened up and looked much better instantly.
Being a parent is the worst and best challenge I have ever had; now after they ar iodinated it is SO much easier. They are more in tune!
