Re: Got something in my Indox recently...
"The author of the newsletter I received implied that people in Japan have one of the longest lifespans and are high consumers of soy."
But, they are also the highest consumers of iodine.
This is part of the reason research studies must be carefully scrutinized.
Japanese have low rates of some cancers, but higher than typical rates of other cancers.
If one cancer is low in occurence, and it is noted they eat a lot of soy, then some people who don't consider carefully, might conclude it is because of the soy. But it really might be because of the iodine.
Or it may be something else entirely different !!
In our lifetimes, we will probably never be able to know.
This is a very well-referenced article here:
http://www.westonaprice.org/soy-alert/tragedy-and-hype
it discusses about which cancers are higher in Japanese people than other people, somewhere around the middle of the article, if you search for "stomach" it should get you to that part quickly.
It is my impression that the Japanese really do not eat that much soy, on average, but I could be wrong - I have never observed any Japanese eating, except for my Japanese friends here in the USA and they always seemed to eat a lot of steak.
