Birds often symbolize goals or ideals as they are something we usually have to look up to. This is true even if the bird in the dream is on the ground or dead.

I wonder if you and your boyfriend are trying to conceive, as the pets are wearing cloths and being cared for as if they are infants.

The idea of looking for a place to shower shows the desire to cleanse and purify.
The sick rotting bird seems to also point in this direction.
