If talking powder I would stick to the half teaspoon three times daily. It is also calming.
As for species there is virtually no difference between species, but most likely you are only going to find Cuscuta chinensis unless you are out collecting your own. I actually ate a lot of the plant when over Iceland where it is plentiful in places. Put the whole plant in boiling water for about 3 minutes and it tastes kind of like a slightly tangy spaghetti. The stuff that grows locally here is not as tasty. It mainly grows on chaparral out here and picks up the flavor of the plant.
