Hi everybody. I'm another one who feels CZ has about as many forums as is necessary for information overload, near explosion.
Over the years, I have seen people passionately request forums they feel are essential because similar existing ones do not cover their desired topics. Many of those forums were created by Dushan, only to get a few posts and then go flat and unused. The number of forums presently is so enormous, that it makes it difficult for someone relatively new to find their way around. The feeling of community (with all the ups and downs which that implies), has been lost.
On another note, I find it baffling that Spud feels that the political forum is overrun with US politics and of the right-wing persuasion. First of all, as Ryan noted, just a few years ago it was a rabid anti-Bush hub, and no one flinched. Yes, the pendulum does indeed swing...So?
Secondly, no one would love to see the experiences and opinions from people around the world posted more than me, however, it must be noted that CZ is available anywhere in the world were people have access to the internet. There are even forums in a wide number of different languages other than English which are not restricted to health or social content, in other words; anything goes. These forums are largely unused, and people from around the world are just not posting. No one is preventing them from doing it, and in case anyone brings up the argument that it is the US political material that is keeping them out, I'd like to remind them that they could easily post anywhere else on the site they like, but haven't.
Americans are by an overwhelmingly, disproportionate number, the people most using a website which began in Norway. If anyone anywhere on the globe wishes to post whatever on CZ, nothing is done to obstruct that process.
This is a situation which has occured many times on CZ, ever since Dushan began to add forums by request. The outcome has pretty much always been the same, and I suspect will continue to follow the same pattern. Ultimately though, it's Dushan who calls the shots on his website.
